Telemundo releases the first teaser of ‘Señora Acero’

Telemundo has released the first teaser for its upcoming production ‘Señora Acero’, starring Blanca Soto, who recently joined the network after signing an exclusive multi-project deal in the beginning of the month.

‘Señora Acero’ (Mrs. Acero), written by Roberto Stopello, the writer of Telemundo's blockbuster hit ‘La Reina del Sur’,  tells the story of Sara Aguilar Bermudez, played by Soto. Sara is a woman who goes from being a housewife living an ordinary life to being the person capable of shaking the foundation of the Mexican government.  After her husband, Vicente Acero, is killed at their wedding, our heroine finds out Vicente was not the man she thought he was and, in fact, lived a double life. Her life becomes a race to evade the authorities and her husband's enemies, and along the way, becomes the "queen of organized crime."

In the first teaser, which was shown during the network’s upfront, Soto’s character runs for her life in a wedding dress, trying to escape from her husband’s enemies. Mexican actor Andrés Palacios plays her husband.

'La Gata’, ‘Hasta El Fin Del Mundo’, 'Mi Corazón Es Tuyo’ and ‘La Malquerida': the telenovelas that will soon premiere on Univision

This week Univision hosted its annual Upfront presentation at Gotham Hall in New York to unveil its 2014-15 programming line-up. The new slate includes four new novelas by Televisa. ‘La Gata’ and ‘Hasta El Fin Del Mundo’ are both slated to premiere on Univision this fall, while ‘Mi Corazón Es Tuyo’ and ‘La Malquerida’ are set for 2015.

“La Gata” – This telenovela follows the story of Esmeralda, a young woman who lives in the poor neighborhood of La Barranca, a place where many, like her, live in abject poverty without the protection and love of a family; a place where she is exploited by the person raising her and has little to look forward to in life. But there is hope.  Esmeralda becomes friends with a young man from a good family and, with time, they fall in love – a love that has to remain hidden from the young man’s family, a love that is threatened to be destroyed by lies and deception. This telenovela features Maite Perroni and Daniel Arenas, and is produced by Nathalie Lartilleux. (Monday – Friday, Primetime, Televisa)

“La Malquerida” (The Bad Mistress) – This is the story of Acacia, a young girl whose father is killed in a terrible accident. The loss of her father is further complicated when her mother, Maria, discovers their “hacienda” (family estate) is in debt. Esteban, a handsome and capable employee, asks Maria to accept his help in saving the estate.  Esteban and Maria’s working relationship becomes one of mutual love.  All seems well, except for one thing:  Acacia cannot accept her mother’s new love, and as she develops into a beautiful young woman, Esteban discovers he carries a secret passion for her, as well. This love-triangle features Victoria Ruffo, Ariadne Diaz, Cristian Meier, and is produced by Jose Alberto Castro. (Monday – Friday, Primetime, Televisa)

“Hasta el Fin del Mundo” (Until the End of Time) - This is the intricate tale of Sofia, the oldest of three sisters, who takes the helm of her family’s chocolate factory after her father’s death.  Engaged to a man who is ambitious and using her as a stepping stone, she feels an immediate and mutual attraction to Salvador, a race-car driver who, due to some unfortunate circumstances, is working as her chauffeur. Sofia and Salvador never tire of demonstrating that despite the hurdles, love is possible. The telenovela stars Marjorie De Sousa, international singing sensation Pedro Fernandez, Julian Gil and Claudia Alvarez, and is produced by Nicandro Diaz. (Monday – Friday, Primetime, Televisa)

“Mi Corazón es Tuyo” (My Heart is Yours) - Life’s journey hasn’t been easy for Ana who works as an exotic dancer in a club and has just lost the home she struggled to own. She knows she has to start over.  Through a clerical error at an employment agency, Ana finds herself applying for the job of “nanny” to a wealthy widower, Fernando, with seven difficult children.  Somehow, without credentials or a cultured background, Ana manages to charm the children and help in the recovery process from the loss of their mother. Meanwhile, Fernando pursues a woman with a suitable pedigree, but it becomes increasingly obvious that he is smitten with Ana and she is smitten with him. Featuring Silvia Navarro, Jorge Salinas, Mayrín Villanueva, and is produced by Juan Osorio. (Monday – Friday, Primetime, Televisa)

What new telenovelas can we expect in the 2014-2015 Telemundo line-up?

Telemundo revealed their upcoming program line-up at its upfront presentation in New York on Tuesday, May 13, including five new telenovelas: ‘Señora Acero’, ‘Los Miserables’, ‘Dueños del Paraíso’, ‘Tierra de Reyes’, and ‘El Jardinero’.

‘Señora Acero’ (Mrs. Acero), written by Roberto Stopello, the writer of Telemundo's blockbuster hit ‘La Reina del Sur’,  tells the story of Sara Aguilar Bermudez, played by acclaimed Mexican actress Blanca Soto.

‘Los Miserables’ is an original story by Valentina Parraga, inspired in the literary work ‘Les Misérables’ by Victor Hugo. The modern day spin on the classic tale stars top Mexican actress Aracely Arambula (La Patrona) as Lucia "Lucha" Duran, an innocent woman wanted by the law, who has to fight fiercely and stay hidden, until she is able to prove her innocence to her pursuer Daniel Ponce, the harsh chief detective of the narcotics unit, a man she will love as she has never loved anyone else before.

‘Dueños del Paraíso’ (Owners of Paradise), an original story by Pablo Illanes, inspired by real-life events during the height of the 1980s drug trade era in Miami, marks the return to Telemundo of renown actress Kate Del Castillo (La Reina Del Sur) as Anastasia Cardona, the widow of a well-known Mexican drug lord who has become psychologically disturbed by the violence that has surrounded her. When she partners up with two local cocaine traffickers to take on the Santa Norma cartel, they become the target of the so-called drug wars, transforming the streets of South Florida into a terrifying battlefield.

‘Tierra de Reyes’ (Land of Kings), an adaptation of the successful novela ‘Pasión de Gavilanes’ by Julio Jimenez, tells the story of the Gallardo brothers as they search for truth and justice after tragically and mysteriously losing their sister. On their journey, each falls in love with the daughters of the man suspected to be responsible for their sister's death.

‘El Jardinero’ (The Gardener) tells the story of Carlos Martinez, an illegal immigrant living in Los Angeles. Carlos is an honest, hard-working man who aspires to offer his two sons a better future so that they can enjoy the opportunities he never had. In their quest for the American dream, father and sons will face the hatred and dangers within a city where the glamour of Hollywood often contrasts with the difficult life of the millions of undocumented Hispanics in the area. El Jardinero is a production inspired by an original story created by Roger L. Simon, an accomplished novelist and writer who has been involved in many successful projects, including the following films: A Better Life, Scenes for a Mall and Enemies, a Love Story.

Kate del Castillo returns to Telemundo in the super series “Dueños del Paraiso”

Telemundo announced the return to Spanish-language television of internationally-acclaimed actress Kate del Castillo in its original super series “Dueños del Paraiso” (Owners of Paradise), one of the network’s most ambitious projects announced at its upfront presentation in New York last night.  Kate del Castillo returns to Telemundo following the success of the popular series “La Reina Del Sur” (Queen of the South), which became the highest rated program in the network’s history, averaging nearly 4.2 million total viewers and over 2.8 million adults 18-49, according to Nielsen.  One of the most prominent Hispanic actresses, Kate has a wide-ranging career in film, theater and television with more than 50 motion pictures and television series among her credits.

“It is our honor to have Kate del Castillo back for an original Telemundo production,” said Joshua Mintz, Executive Vice President of Scripted Programming and General Manager of Telemundo Studios.  “Her art, professionalism, and drive are the perfect combination for this Super Series.”

“I'm excited to return to Telemundo for this mega production” said Kate.  “If the story of Teresa Mendoza captivated audiences not only in the US but also around the world, wait until you meet Anastasia Cardona in this story inspired by real-life events.”

“Dueños del Paraíso” (Owners of Paradise), an original story by Pablo Illanes inspired by real-life events during the height of the 1980s drug trade era in Miami, stars Kate Del Castillo (“La Reina Del Sur”) as Anastasia Cardona, the widow of a well-known Mexican drug lord who has become psychologically disturbed by the violence that has surrounded her.  When she partners up with two local cocaine traffickers to take on the Santa Norma cartel, they become the target of the so-called “drug wars,” transforming the streets of South Florida into a terrifying battlefield.

Kate del Castillo began acting at a young age, but her role in the telenovela "Muchachitas" is what led her to stardom in her native Mexico.  Her telenovelas have aired multiple times in more than 100 countries worldwide.  She was appointed Ambassador for the Mexican Commission on Human Rights to combat human trafficking in 2009, and launched the Blue Heart campaign in Mexico City with U.N. Goodwill Ambassador Mira Sorvino in 2010.  Kate recently starred in the coveted lead role of “La Reina del Sur” (Queen of the South), Telemundo’s most ambitious and record-breaking prime time original series.  Del Castillo broke through in America as a result of her award-winning performance in the hit Fox Searchlight/Weinstein movie “Under the Same Moon,” which is to date one of the highest-grossing Spanish-language theatrical releases in U.S. history and appeared as a guest star in the fifth season of the Showtime hit comedy series “Weeds.”  In 2014, the actress has five movies set for release, including Guillermo del Toro’s “The Tree of Life” and the eagerly anticipated “The 33,” co-starring Antonio Banderas and Juliette Binoche, based on the true story of the 33 Chilean miners trapped underground for 69 days following a mine collapse.  Currently Kate is starring in The Vagina Monologues on Broadway.

‘O Canto da Sereia’ was an audience success in Brazil. The story beat its predecessors in its timeslot and reached an average of 23 rating points with 50% of the share (Source: Ibope), the equivalent of around 20 million people per minute watching each episode. The show repeated its success in Portugal, where it was shown on Globo’s channel.

Based on the novel “O Canto da Sereia – Um Noir Baiano”, by Nelson Motta, the miniseries is a thriller set in Salvador, in the northeast of Brazil. Sereia’s murder takes place early in the first episode and the story is unveiled in flashback scenes. The further the investigations advance, the more the public learns about the protagonist’s true personality and her many enigmas.
